The Expected End

Jeremiah 29:11

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”

One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned from walking with God and gleaning from wise vessels is this: never speak from the frustration of your flesh. Emotions may rise, disappointments may sting, and misunderstandings may cut deep; but reacting in the flesh can easily cloud the divine perspective.

Understand this, a temporary misalignment does not cancel the expected end that God has declared over your life. Your current wilderness season is not your conclusion, it’s your classroom. It’s where your character is shaped, your motives are refined, and your calling is solidified. Even when people misjudge you, misunderstand you, or miscategorized your journey, do not lose sight of what God is doing behind the scenes.

Life often presents us with unexpected trials, disappointments, and detours; but through every test, there’s a treasure and the lesson in it. This is why we’re called to not lean on our own understanding, because our finite minds simply cannot comprehend the infinite workings of a sovereign God. Depending solely on human logic in spiritual matters is a sure way to derail divine purpose.

Yet even in the middle of life’s storms, there’s a Word that anchors us:

1 John 4:4

“Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.”

Godly success doesn’t always look like worldly success. What God considers a “well done, thou good and faithful servant” may not align with society’s definition of achievement. We’re reminded:

Proverbs 19:21

“There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless, the counsel of the Lord, that shall stand.”

Too often, we chase success in pursuit of validation, longing for approval from others. While appreciation is a blessing, when it becomes our compass, we risk losing our God-given identity. And without identity in Christ, how can we ever walk in our true purpose?

This is why knowing your Creator is the key to knowing yourself:

Psalm 100:3

“Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.”

This scripture reminds us to shift our focus: What does the Creator, the Manufacturer of our lives, desire for us? Once we surrender our independence and choose full dependence on the infinite God, we unlock a divine roadmap that leads to a life of purpose, impact, and eternal value.

We circle back to that powerful promise in Jeremiah: God knows the thoughts He thinks toward us. But now, through intimacy with Him, as Jesus prayed in John 17:3, “that they may know thee the only true God”—we can begin to discern those thoughts. As we do, we align ourselves with heaven’s blueprint, ready to execute His will and walk in dominion, righteousness, and grace.
