The Healing of the Soul Continued…

Updated: Sep 6

Introduction

Healing of the soul is one of the most profound works of God in a believer’s life. It is not only about physical recovery but about transformation — a process that touches the deepest parts of our being. For healing to truly take place, we must first acknowledge our need for it and open ourselves to the way God brings it forth.

Healing as Transformation

The word “transformation” captures the essence of healing. Transformation involves a process of change — moving from one state to another. Scripture reminds us: “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind” (Romans 12:2). Just as a caterpillar becomes a butterfly, healing is the Spirit-led process of becoming new in Christ.

Healing is not instantaneous for most; it is a journey of being reshaped into Christ’s likeness. Transformation equals being able to articulate the mind of God to a generation — not only by words but by the testimony of our lived experience.

The Role of Community and Experience

The Apostle Paul often spoke of the body of Christ working together as one (1 Corinthians 12:12–27). Healing is not meant to be carried out in isolation. We need one another. Our testimonies of survival, endurance, and overcoming trials become channels of hope and restoration for others.

True healing is not measured by academic knowledge alone but by experiential knowledge illuminated by the Word of God. Our understanding must be both biblical and lived out.

Self-Examination and Spiritual Growth

Paul also exhorts believers in 2 Corinthians 13:5: “Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith.” Healing requires us to confront ourselves honestly — our wounds, struggles, and sins. This self-examination is part of the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit, preparing us to move to higher levels of maturity in Christ.

Healing is not simply recovery from pain, but progression into purpose. The inner battles we face — struggles of the heart, temptations, doubts — are opportunities for us to be conformed to Christ through prayer, fasting, worship, and immersion in God’s Word.

The Reality of the Struggle

The truth is, some battles we face may feel overwhelming. Like Paul, we may ask, “Who will deliver me from this body of death?” (Romans 7:24). Yet the hope of the gospel is this: “Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!” (Romans 7:25). Healing flows from Christ’s finished work, empowering us to overcome by His Spirit.

Conclusion

The healing of the soul is not a one-time event, but a continuous process of transformation. As we accept God’s healing, embrace community, and examine ourselves in light of Scripture, we are steadily renewed. Just as a butterfly emerges from a caterpillar, so too does God bring beauty, freedom, and maturity out of our brokenness.

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds” (Psalm 147:3).
